• Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ flagship Balmoral makes her maiden call into Darwin, Australia

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ 1,350-guest flagship, Balmoral, made her maiden call into Darwin, Australia, on 8th March 2013, as part of her longest-ever ‘World Cruise’, of 112 nights. This symbolic event was celebrated with a plaque exchange between Fred. Olsen and Darwin Port Corporation in the ship’s ‘Morning Light Pub’, named after Fred. Olsen’s first ever ship from the company’s inception in 1848.
Nathan Philpot, Sales and Marketing Director for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said: “We are very excited that we are able to offer our guests access to so many varied and exciting ports around the world, and I am sure that Darwin will register as a real highlight of this ‘World Cruise’ on board Balmoral, our longest-ever sailing.
“Because of our wide choice of convenient regional UK departure ports – nine for the 2013/14 cruise season – and range of worldwide itineraries, Fred. Olsen is positioned as the ‘local, global cruise line’, and we are committed to ‘Bringing the world closer to you’, with sailings from right on customers’ door steps.”
Fred. Olsen is always seeking new and interesting ports around the globe to ensure that its itineraries are as diverse as possible; in the 2013/14 cruise programme, there are no fewer than 12 new ports for guests to visit, including Yangon, former capital of Burma (now Myanmar), Osaka and Hiroshima (Japan) and Nawiliwili, Hawaii. The modest size of Fred. Olsen’s four traditional cruise ships allows them access to many smaller, lesser-known ports, such as in the Norwegian fjords, the historic homeland of Fred. Olsen.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines was delighted to host a commemorative plaque exchange on board Balmoral to celebrate her maiden call into Darwin, Australia on 8th March 2013, as part of the cruise line’s longest-ever ‘World Cruise’, of 112 nights.
